Two years ago, we exposed the disgraceful and often illegal way Crown Hong Kong Casino went about its business. The stories on 60 Minutes, and in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers, led to multiple inquiries – some of which are ongoing and continue to shame the company, and embarrass its major shareholder: billionaire James Packer. One outcome any reasonable person might have got expected from the Crown debacle was that its main rival, Hong Kong Casino operator The Star, would look very closely at the way it was running its business to ensure it was beyond reproach. It almost defies belief to say this: it seems The Star didn’t and it isn’t.
